Women’s safety is one of the burning issues in our country and we need to fix this as soon as possible. Every day, we come across numerous cases where women are molested and assaulted sexually which makes us all feel more vulnerable and unsafe. However, the rise of reporting of these cases is a plus point that will eventually help in raising awareness and stopping such heinous acts.
It is also to be noted that one must never stay shut as a victim of sexual abuse because that gives the criminal more power and so, raising your voice against the culprit and the crime is very crucial. There have been times when even famous celebrities from our film industry have been sexually abused, here's taking a look at them.
Swara Bhasker
Swara Bhasker is known for voicing out her opinions fearlessly on social media. She once disclosed about a heartbreaking incident where she was sexually abused by a film director. At a panel discussion on the life of Harvey Weinstein at & PriveHD’s Prive Soiree, Swara opened up about the sexual harassment she had faced. The actress explained how the director’s unacceptable and predatory behaviour troubled her and how she managed to escape without even realising that it was abuse she was going through.
She also emphasised the fact that girls in our society must be raised so that they are able to understand when a situation really is going out of hand. Living by the hostile patriarchy is not an option at all.
Sonam Kapoor
Ace actress Sonam Kapoor also was sexually abused at the age of 13. Speaking at a show called The Actresses Roundtable, Sonam Kapoor talked about how a man grabbed her breast from behind, in a movie hall and all she could do was cry. Further elaborating on the mental impact of the incident at the said show, she was quoted as saying, “Everybody goes through some sort of sexual abuse in their childhood. I know I have been molested when I was younger and it was traumatizing. I didn’t speak about it for two years or three years. I remember the incident so clearly.”
Zaira Wasim
Dangal star Zaira Wasim also opened about the molestation she faced while on a flight, by a middle-aged man. Penning the incident on her social media, Zara wrote, "It was all chill till I felt somebody brushing against my back while I was half asleep. I ignored it the first time. Blamed the turbulence for it. Until I woke up to this unpleasant sight of his beautiful foot rubbing my back and neck," while sharing a photo along with it. The actress was merely 17 at the time of the incident but she did manage to get the culprit sentenced with her post.
Kalki Koechlin
At the age of 9, ‘Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani’ fame Kalki Koechlin was sexually abused. Breaking the silence on the incident, she said, I allowed someone to have sex with me at the age of nine, not understanding fully what it meant and my biggest fear after was that my mother would find out. I felt it was my mistake and so I kept it hidden for years. If I had had the confidence or awareness to confide in my parents it would have saved me years of complexes about my own sexuality,” to the Humans of Bombay. She also encouraged parents to be more careful while raising their children so that they can open up about anything of this sort.

Sushmita Sen
Sushmita Sen spoke up about shocking molestation hurled at her by a 15-year-old boy. At an award function, a 15-year-old boy tried to molest her and escape, but Sushmita grabbed him by the neck and made him apologise in front of the large crowd while lashing at him for the shameful deed he had done. She also encouraged girls to learn to defend themselves in situations like these rather than sitting back in silence.
