Esha Gupta reveals facing discrimination in Bollywood due to dark skin tone

Indian actor Esha Gupta sat down for an interview and opened up about being shamed in Bollywood because of her dark skin.

The Rustom actor revealed she was called ‘kali maa’ during childhood because of her skin complexion. However, when she entered the film industry she faced the same bias.

Gupta shared, “When I became an actor, and my first film came, I remember when I used to go to meetings or auditions, people used to say, ‘Oh, you should do your colour light or take those injections, which cost a lot of money’. Because a lot of actresses have done that and changed the colour... but I never understood that concept”.

She added, “I am okay with someone changing his/her nose. I am okay if they get it changed because they don’t like it. But I am okay with my body and features.”

The actor further added, “There were also moments when some people told me, ‘You will never get that girl next door or cute role’. I am fine with it. I don’t even want it, but don’t say that it is because of my colour.”

The astrologer added that among the three children of Shah Rukh Khan, it is Suhana who is most likely to carry the legacy and stardom of her father forward. When asked as to how and when fans should expect her formal mainstream debut, he hinted at a major mainstream debut for the bundle of talent, adding that her first major release can be expected by 2022 or 2023.

Future As A Producer 

The findings of the astrological calculations and face reading further suggest that it’s not just taking where Suhana is destined to continue his father’s legacy. It is quite likely that she would be actively involved in production of films or shows in the future.

Esha Gupta: A lot of actresses have got their colour lightened, but I never understood that concept

During her childhood, Esha Gupta was often called ‘Kali maa’ not because she was powerful like the Goddess but because she has a dark complexion. At that age, she never understood the name-calling and did not pay heed to it. However, the actor was shocked to have faced it again when she entered Bollywood with people taking it a step further and suggesting she go for skin whitening procedures.

“When I became an actor, and my first film came, I remember when I used to go to meetings or auditions, people used to say, ‘Oh, you should do your colour light or take those injections, which cost a lot of money’,” reveals Gupta, adding, “Because a lot of actresses have done that and changed the colour... but I never understood that concept”.

For her, the decision to alter anything about one’s personality or body should come from within, and not due to outside pressure.

“I am okay with someone changing his/her nose. I am okay if they get it changed because they don’t like it. But I am okay with my body and features. There were also moments when some people told me, ‘You will never get that girl next door or cute role’. I am fine with it. I don’t even want it, but don’t say that it is because of my colour,” says Gupta, who made her Bollywood debut with Jannat 2 in 2012.

At one point, she was advised to go under the knife to get her nose changed. “Someone even told me that I should change my nose because my nose is not sharp like other actresses. My nose is small and round. Initially, it affected me mentally.”

It was hard for the Rustom (2016) and Nakaab actor to escape such judgements, and she is glad that she didn’t let her confidence waver. She recalls, “I had to go for a surgery because I have deviated septum and have problem breathing, but I never did it because I was so scared that my nose’ shape might change”.

Looking back at her years growing up in India as a dusky girl, Gupta confesses, “When I was a kid, I wasn’t as dark as how much I do today. As a toddler, I took some wrong pills, following which I was hospitalised and had to get a blood transfusion. After that I became very weak and dark”.

She recalls how some distant relatives used to pass snide remarks, as she puts, “They were always telling my mom that ek aur ladki ho gayi, aur woh bhi dark hai, We feel so sorry for you’”.

“I remember one of my aunts used to call me ke Kaali Maa, and I used to get upset about it. My maasi used to question her, and say, ‘She is a goddess, so I don’t know what you are trying to say’. So, I have always been very conscious about how I look when I was a kid”.

Now, she is confident about her looks as well as her skin colour, and credits time spent as a model behind it. “When I started modelling, everyone just loved my colour. Because the people in fashion are much more advanced,” she shares, adding that her time on foreign shores also helped her realise it.

“It was only during the pandemic that I started working abroad because I was in Spain for a long time. When I used to venture out, everyone would compliment my skin tone, and ask me how I got it, which I realised that it is my Indian skin tone, and that people do love it,” the actor says while wrapping up.

Robert Pattinson is stepping into the shoes of caped crusader Batman for upcoming film from director Matt Reeves. Its teaser has already got people talking and the superhero movie is set for March 4 release worldwide. In India, it will be clashing with Akshay Kumar and Kriti Sanon -starrer Bachchan Pandey.

KGF-Chapter 2 and Bhediya

Yash and Sanjay Dutt starrer action film KGF: Chapter 2 is highly awaited after being delayed several times amid the pandemic. It is finally arriving in cinemas on April 14. Meanwhile, it was announced by the makers of Bhediya, a horror comedy featuring Varun Dhawan and Kriti Sanon, that the movie will also be releasing on the same day.

MayDay and Heropanti 2

Heropanti 2 starring Tiger Shroff and Tara Sutaria is set for April 29 release on the auspicious occasion of Eid. Meanwhile Amitabh Bachchan, Ajay Devgn and Rakul Preet Singh’s MayDay is also set to release on the same day. Earlier, Heropanti 2 changed release date twice to avoid clash with Hollywood biggie Thor: Love and Thunder, set for May 6 release worldwide, but a Bollywood clash is confirmed.

Adipurush and Raksha Bandhan

It has been confirmed that Akshay Kumar and Prabhas will clash at the box office during the Independence Day weekend. Akshay’s Raksha Bandhan and Prbhas and Saif Ali Khan’s retelling of Ramayana, Adipurush, will be releasing on the same day, August 11, in 2022.

Bollywood actress Katrina Kaif of Tuesday wished actor Sunny Kaushal on his birthday. The actor, who turned 32, is the brother of Katrina’s rumoured boyfriend Vicky Kaushal. Katrina and Vicky have reportedly been dating for a couple of years now and have been spotted together multiple times. However, there has been no confirmation from either side. Recently, a report stating that they were engaged, also surfaced on social media, but was denied by their teams. Now, Katrina wishing Sunny has again fired up rumours that she is dating the Uri: The Surgical Strike actor.

Taking to Instagram stories, Katrina shared a picture of Sunny, wear he could be seen donning a denim jacket, printed shirt and sunglasses. She wrote, “Happiest birthday @sunsunnykhez. May your days be filled with sunshine, joy and love.”

Meanwhile, Katrina is currently shooting for Tiger 3 in Europe with Salman Khan and Emraan Hashmi. Tiger 3 is the third part of the YRF (Yash Raj Films) spy-thriller franchise. Ek Tha Tiger (2012), the first movie in the franchise, chronicled the story of an Indian spy (RAW) code-named Tiger, who falls in love with a Pakistani spy (Kaif) during an investigation. It was directed by Kabir Khan. On the other hand, Tiger Zinda Hai (2017), saw Tiger and Zoya go on a mission to save a group of hostages held by a militant terrorist organization in Iraq. The second film was helmed by Ali Abbas Zafar.

Katrina will be seen in Rohit Shetty's Sooryavanshi opposite Akshay Kumar, which will release on Diwali 2021. She also has the horror-comedy Phone Bhoot lined up. It has been directed by Gurmmeet Singh and also features Ishaan Khatter and Siddhant Chaturvedi. She will also be seen in Farhan Akhtar's Jee Le Zara with Priyanka Chopra and Alia Bhatt.

Vicky, on the other hand, will be next seen in Shoojit Sircar’s Sardar Udham Singh. The film will release on Amazon Prime Video on october 16. He will also be seen in Meghna Gulzar’s Sam Bahadur, Shashank Khaitan’s Mr Lele and Aditya Dhar’s The Immortal Ashwatthama in the pipeline.

Kangana Ranaut took to her Instagram stories to write a long note for all the Bollywood mafia. Mumbai/IBNS: Bollywood's powerful couple Alia Bhatt and Ranbir Kapoor has reached Jodhpur over the weekend, fuelling speculations over their much-anticipated marriage later this year.

Alia and Ranbir are reportedly in Jodhpur to scout for a wedding venue.

The relationship was confirmed by Alia in 2019 during an award ceremony where she acknowledged her love towards Ranbir.

Kangana Ranaut has talked about how her weight adjustments for her latest ‘Thalaivii’ that “messed up many things” in her body and left her with “permanent stretch marks”.

For her role in the film, based on the life of late Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and former actress J. Jayalalithaa, the actress had to gain 20kg and undergo major physical transformation several times.

Kangana Ranaut took to Instagram to share her experience, detailing that doing all that over the six months period left her with ‘permanent stretch mark’ for Thalaivii.

“Gaining 20 kgs in 6 months and loosing it all within 6 months that too in my thirties messed up many things in my body. I also have permanent stretch marks as well but art comes to life with a price and more often than not price is the artist him/herself,” wrote Thalaivii actress Kangana Ranaut.

‘Thalaivii’ showcases the varied aspects of Jayalalithaa’s life, tracing her journey as an actress at a young age to becoming the face of Tamil cinema, as well as the rise of the revolutionary leader who changed the course of the state’s politics. Talking about her upcoming works, the Queen actress is currently has ‘Dhaakad’.

Apart from Thalaivii, Kangana Ranaut is also shooting for her next ‘Tejas’, where she plays a fighter pilot. The Indian Air Force was the first of the country’s defence forces to induct women into combat roles in 2016.

The film takes inspiration from the landmark event. ‘Tejas’ is directed by debutant Sarvesh Mewara. The film will be RSVP’s second film which pays a tribute to the Indian military after the immensely successful film “Uri: The Surgical Strike” which was released in January 2019.

‘Am I Raj Kundra? Do I look like him?’: Shilpa Shetty blasts journalist questioning actress about husband

Last week, Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty's husband and businessman Raj Kundra secured bail at a surety of Rs 50,000 after spending 60 days in jail after he was arrested by the police in connection to pornography racket case. As the actress continues to be in news, an old video of her has resurfaced on the Internet. The video is of an old press conference when Shilpa was seen shutting down a journalist who questioned the actress about her husband amidst a legal battle against gutka barons son and actor Sachin Joshi in an alleged gold case. 

"Main Raj Kundra hoon? Main uske jaisi lagti hoon? Nahi nahi, main kaun hoon (Am I Raj Kundra? Do I look like him? Who am I)?” the actress said in the viral video

“I really believe as a celebrity you should never complain and you should never explain. Yeh meri zindagi ki philosophy rahi hai (This has been my life’s philosophy),” she added.

The video has resurfaced amidst Raj Kundra's name being connected to a pornography racket. Earlier, the Bollywood actress informed Mumbai Police that she remained too tied up in her work to know the porn apps or other activities of her husband Raj Kundra. Shilpa stated that Kundra had launched Viaan Industries Ltd around April 2015 and she was on the board till July 2020 when she quit owing to personal reasons, as stated in the charge sheet filed by the police against Kundra and his associate Ryan Thorpe.

According to the police probe, Kundra allegedly used his company's Mumbai offices to manage the daily operations of the sleaze content racket and upload it through the HotShots and Bollyfame apps for paid viewers.

The nearly 1,500-page charge sheet also contains details of the investigations and the evidence collected against the 11 accused arrested till date, plus two others wanted accused in the same case, Kundra's brother-in-law Sandeep Bakshi and Yash Thakur - to show how the entire paid sleaze content racket was being run.

The police during its raid on Kundra's homes on July 23 and the Viaan offices in Andheri on July 24, had seized incriminating documents, laptops, portable hard-disks, and also recovered a laptop from Thorpe.

All the electronic devices were subjected to various forensic tests to gather further evidence pertaining to the sensational case.

Besides Shilpa, the police have recorded the statements, including some before a magistrate, of at least 42 other witnesses, including models, films or television actresses, against Kundra and Thorpe.

The smut racket was exposed after the Malad police raided a bungalow in Madh Island in February, the subsequent nabbing of 9 accused, and finally the arrest of Kundra and Thorpe on July 19, shocking the entertainment industry.

Controversial boxer Mike Tyson turns Bollywood movie star in Karan Johar’s ‘Liger’

Former heavyweight boxing champion Mike Tyson has bagged his first Bollywood project with a starring role in Vijay Deverakonda’s ‘Liger’.

The film will also mark Deverakonda’s big Bollywood debut under filmmaker Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions. Starring alongside the Telugu star will be actress Ananya Pandey.

Tyson’s big debut was announced by Johar on social media. “For the first time ever, the king of the ring will be seen on the big screens of Indian cinema! Welcoming @MikeTyson to the #LIGER team! (sic),” Johar wrote on Twitter.

Deverakonda also made the announcement on his social media, with a poster that saw half his face merged with that of Tyson. “We promised you Madness! We are just getting started. For the first time on Indian Screens. Joining our mass spectacle - #LIGER The Baddest Man on the Planet. The God of Boxing. The Legend, the Beast, the Greatest of all Time! IRON MIKE TYSON”

According to reports, Tyson is said to make a cameo appearance in the climax portions of the film, which is releasing in Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Kannada and Malayalam languages.

The American boxer ruled the ring as Iron Mike between 1985 and 2005, however, Tyson fell from grace in 1992 when he was convicted of rape and sentenced to six years in prison; although he was released on parole after three years and staged a comeback in sports.

Tyson has previously appeared in movies such as ‘The Hangover’ and ‘Pharaoh’s War’.

"At times, she would come on set, and everyone would be working hard and rehearsing, but she might not like what we were doing. So, in front of the whole unit, she would take the mike and scream, 'What rubbish is this? What rubbish are you all doing?' We would be scared and terrified," she added.

Reacting to Juhi's words, Farah commented: "To be fair, they were doing rubbish, 'kuch bhi kar rahe the vo log us din'. But we've done several great songs together and we've had our fair share of fun too. Juhi is one of the most talented actresses and dancers I know, and I've had a great time working with her."

Lara Dutta Talks About The Promise She Made To Mahesh Bhupathi Before The Birth Of Their Daughter

Bollywood actress, Lara Dutta is one of the gorgeous mommy, who knows how to strike a perfect work-life balance. She has been inspiring many moms with her parenting skills and the zeal with which she looks at her career. Recently, Lara Dutta talked about the promise she had made to her husband, Mahesh Bhupathi, the ace tennis player, before the birth of their daughter, Saira.

For the unversed, it was on February 16, 2011, when Lara Dutta and Mahesh Bhupati had tied the knot in a civil ceremony. And on January 20, 2012, the couple was blessed with a little angel, whom they have named, Saira Bhupati.

Recently, in an interview with The Times of India, Lara talked about the promise she had made her husband, Mahesh before the birth of their daughter. She revealed, " We had made a deal when we found out that I was pregnant with Saira--that, at any given point of time, one parent will be with her. And in the last 10 years, we've managed to keep that promise."

Lara further revealed that whenever she is doing a film, Mahesh makes sure that he is with their daughter all the time. And if If he's away at work, playing in the tennis tour, she takes a sabbatical and makes sure that she is present in their daughter's life. 

On September 26, 2021, Lara shared a cute picture with her daughter, Saira. In the picture, we can see her giving a hug to her baby girl. Along with it, she penned a daughter's day wish for her and wrote, "Obiviously her futures bright! #DaughtersDay."

Earlier, in an interview with the PTI, Lara had opened up on motherhood and had shared, "You spend many sleepless nights even before the child is born, figuring out whether you'll be a good mother, be able to live up to everything that's expected. But no amount of worry is going to prepare you when the child is born. Each child goes through its own phases as well. One point of time they are the best-behaved child and then they are the opposite. The day you decide to become a parent, you're signing up for one of the greatest adventures of life which doesn't stop ever."

On the work front, Lara Dutta was last seen in the film, Bell Bottom!

The highly anticipated season 15 of Bigg Boss is gearing up for its premiere on October 2 at 9.30 pm on Colors TV. The controversial reality show, hosted by Salman Khan, will have a jungle theme this year and the makers have also revealed that Donal Bisht, Umar Riaz, Shamita Shetty, Pratik Sehajpal and Nishant Bhat will be a part of Bigg Boss 15.

Now, Donal Bisht has opened up about her upcoming stint on the reality show, in a recent interview. The actress told Bollywood Life, "I have no strategy in mind. The only thing is just to be real, just be positive. I am that kind of person who takes time or the one who has opinions about things. I am someone who doesn't go by other people's saying or opinions. So, I am a strong person by myself. So, that's what I am. I have no planned anything that I will do inside the Bigg Boss house. I am going to see what is happening and behave accordingly. "

On being quizzed about how she plans to survive in the jungle this year, Donal said, "Right now we do not know what is going to happen. I was just thinking about that because no one knows anything. So, that is what I can do right now."

The actress also spoke about her fellow contestants Shamita Shetty, Nishant Bhat, Pratik Sehajpal and Umar Riaz and said that nobody is a competition for her but she will be a competition for everyone. She added that she hasn’t seen Bigg Boss OTT and is only aware of a few main things the OTT contestants did via social media. Donal doesn’t want to know more about them and stated that she will play in the way the opposite person plays and has no set plans in place so for now.

Mallika Sherawat on how she Escaped Casting Couch

Mallika Sherawat has revealed how she managed to escape the casting couch during her Bollywood career.

The actress said that she had been very lucky with her rise to stardom and didn’t have to struggle that much.

However, she said her “bold” onscreen persona soon meant that many male actors tried to “take liberties” with her.

Asked whether she had faced the casting couch in the film industry, Mallika said:

“I haven’t faced it directly… My rise to stardom, I was very lucky, it was very easy.

“I came to Mumbai, I got Khwahish and Murder.

“But after the movies, because Murder was such a bold movie, and that kind of a bold image was established, a lot of male actors started taking a lot of liberties with me and they said if you can be so bold onscreen, you can be bold with us in person also.”

Speaking with entertainment outlet PinkVilla, she added that she stood her ground and did not compromise:

“They did not differentiate between the onscreen and offscreen persona, so that is where I faced a lot of difficult situations because I am a very strong woman, and I would tell the male actor, ‘I am sorry, I am not going to compromise’.

“I haven’t come to Bollywood to compromise, I have come here to make a career.

“That’s why they have never worked with me.”

It comes after Mallika previously made controversial comments suggesting that women put themselves in vulnerable situations deliberately.

She had said:

“All this happens when you put yourself in that position, I feel.”

“I didn’t go to Bollywood parties, I didn’t meet any producer or director at night in a hotel room, or at night in the office.

“I kept myself away, and I thought, ‘I’ll get what is destined for me’. I don’t need to do all these things.”

She made her Bollywood debut in 2003 with romance film Khwahish opposite Himanshu Malik before starring in her best-known film, Murder, which was inspired by the Hollywood movie, Unfaithful.

Mallika Sherawat soon became a successful actress and sex symbol within the industry.

She had revealed that she was judged by the media for performing bold scenes whereas her male co-stars were not questioned.

She last appeared in Booo Sabki Phategi, a 2019 Hindi horror-comedy web series created and produced by Ekta Kapoor for ALTBalaji.

Bachchan Pandey: Kriti Sanon Gives Sneak Peek Into Her Character Of Myra As She Starts Dubbing

Mumbai: Bollywood actress Kriti Sanon is basking in the success of 'Mimi' these days. The tinsel town diva has managed to win hearts with her power-packed performance as a surrogate mother in the comedy drama. Sanon is currently busy dubbing for her next film ‘Bachchan Pandey’ in which she will share screen-space with Akshay Kumar. 

Kriti took to social media to share a glimpse of her character ‘Myra’ from the action comedy drama, which also stars Jacqueline Fernandez. She shared a photo from the dubbing studio on her Instagram story along with the caption, "Bachchan Pandey!!! this one's special !!! Our third together #SajidSir @wardakhannadiadwala @nadiadwalagrandson @farhadsamji."

 If gossip mills are to be believed, Kriti is playing the role of a journalist in ‘Bachchan Pandey’. She is working with Khiladi Kumar for the second time in her career. Their first film ‘Housefull 4’ created ripples upon its release at the box office.

The film also stars Arshad Warsi, Pankaj Tripathi and Prateik Babbar in key roles. The Farhad Samji directorial will hit the silver screens on January 26, 2022. The cast and crew commenced the shoot in Jaisalmer earlier this year.

Kriti Sanon’s Upcoming Films 

The tinsel town diva, who made her Bollywood debut with ‘Heropanti’ opposite Tiger Shroff, has several exciting projects in her kitty. Her star-studded line-up of films include ‘Bhediya’, ‘Ganapath’, ‘Hum Do Hamara Do’. 

Kriti will share screen-space with Tollywood superstar Prabhas in Om Raut’s ‘Adipurush’. The epic drama also stars Sunny Singh and Saif Ali Khan. 

Sanon will team up with her former co-stars like Rajkummar Rai, Varun Dhawan and Tiger Shroff for her upcoming films. The ‘Dilwale’ actress has manages to establish herself as one of the most bankable stars in the Hindi film industry post the success of ‘Mimi’, which released on Netflix.

It's no surprise that Circa Resort & Casino, a spanking new downtown Las Vegas resort, has attracted a few more celebrities this week. Nargis Fakhri, a stunning Bollywood actress and model, was roaming around the popular resort on Fremont Street Experience with Business tycoon JAS MATHUR. Her dinner reservations were made, and she proceeded downstairs to Barry's Downtown Prime, Circa's legendary restaurant.

The actress is most known for her 2011 romantic drama Rockstar, in which she primarily works in the Indian cinema business. In 2012, her performance in Rockstar earned her several significant award nominations, including an IIFA Award for "Hottest Pair" with co-star Ranbir Kapoor.

Nargis's friends were a venture capitalist/serial entrepreneur, Jaspreet "Jas" Mathur and Sheru Aangrish, a Fitness Entrepreneur. Jas Mathur owns multiple companies like Emblaze ONE Inc, Limitless and CBD company SMILZ in partnership with Legendary boxer FLOYD MAYWEATHER.

After dinner, Chef Barry escorted Nargis, Jas & Sheru back through the kitchen, where they ran into WWE stars Titus O'Neil and Omos, who stands 7 ft 3in tall, who was in Vegas for the pay-per-view event WWE Summerslam. The two wrestlers even tried to escort the restaurant co-owner, Yassine Lyoubi, out of the kitchen by picking him up off his feet.

The actress and the entrepreneur were sure to document their whole Circa experience to their Instagram stories throughout the evening, and it didn't go unnoticed. Their combined 14 million followers were vicariously living through them while drooling over the showcased meals. When Kajol Opened Up About Her Mother, Tanuja's Strict Upbringing, Spilt The Beans On Getting Beaten

Bollywood actress, Kajol is undoubtedly one of the most successful actresses in the industry. However, her mother, Tanuja's contribution can never be denied in providing the best upbringing to her daughters, Kajol and Tanishaa Mukerji. Kajol Devgan shares a beautiful relationship with her mother, Tanuja, and some unseen snippets from their personal life prove the same. From hosting birthday bashes for her daughter to enjoying the company of her grandchildren, Tanuja is a happy mommy and grandmother now.

However, in the initial years of her daughter, Kajol's upbringing, the beautiful actress, Tanuja, was very strict. She believed in punishing and beating her children left and right in order to raise them correctly. In a 1999 interview with journalist, Karan Thapar, Kajol had revealed that her mother, Tanuja had believed in the theory that once you spare the rod, you spoil the child. Therefore, she was pretty strict with her. The Ishq actress had said, ''I was loved, but I wasn’t spoilt. My mother believed in the saying, spare the rod, spoil the child. She was pretty strict, so I got beaten by badminton rackets, dishes. I’ve had quite a few things thrown at me.''

Sharing one instance from her 13th birthday, Kajol had told the journalist that her mother, Tanuja, had asked her to correct her behaviour. And after that, her mother had promised to never raise her hand. In her words, ''I will never raise a hand on you again, but if I have to correct you, I will. But I will never make you feel like a child, today you are a teen and an adult. And from that day onwards, I took responsibility for my own actions.”

A few months back, an adorable picture from Kajol's childhood had surfaced on the internet. The monochrome photo had featured her mother, Tanuja and Kajol in her childhood days. In the adorable photo, we could see baby Kajol sitting cutely in her mommy, Tanuja's lap. The yesteryear star, Tanuja, had looked gorgeous and could be seen wearing a bell-sleeves white ensemble.

In an episode of Netflix’s Behensplaining, Kajol had opened up on her parents' divorce and had revealed that it did not impact her upbringing much as her parents fulfilled their duties properly. She had said, "I had the most amazing upbringing ever. I am very lucky to have been brought up by such a forward-thinking, amazing person who taught me so much about life, growing up and about being an adult from the time that I was a child.
